Buddha

For this project, we designed in 3D a stylized Buddha head and created suitable files for 3D printing and CNC machining. Using these files we 3D printed the basic form in multiple sections on a giant 3D printer. We glued these sections together and reinforced them to support the weight for moulding. CNC machined hairpieces were moulded and multiples cast to produce the detailed hair mounds, these were manually added to the master model. We laid up a GRP silicone jacket moulded from this master model then cast out multiple heads in GRP. The heads were then sprayed and art worked to give a metallic finish. The Buddha head formed part of a display showcasing the Giant 3D printer at the 100% Design Show at London’s Olympia venue.
